  1. No one in their right mind wants to be a nerd. Nerd is the prurient element (though not necessarily sexual) to all our obsessions or be that passions (as they would remain were not compelled to obsess).

What people aspire to, is to be geekified, with the ultimate aim being to ‘grok’ this entire reality (via serious information magedom of course).

Though to many people these, geek & nerd are one & the same.

    On a side note:
‘To preoccupy the mind of excessively’, is the definition of ‘obsess’.

Perhaps the pride in ‘nerdom’ comes from the fact that the populace as a whole are accused of not preoccupying themselves enough with things that pertain to the mind.
However I think that collectively we have never had more on our poor primitive minds that we do today.

It is just the intellectual stimulus that is found wanting in these myriad preoccupations.
For example in the past instead of knowing alot of trivia & celeb gossip people learnt about some of the few things there was to learn (alot of what we take for granted was yet to become part of the pantheon of knowledge)- languages, writing, poetry, music, philosophy, religion, law; to this day the undertaking of these is considered edifying in itself.

Personally I don’t think that what you ponder can be bad in itself – it is the interpretation that matters.
